Day 1: Arrival in Colombo

Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, a bustling and vibrant city that seamlessly blends modern life with colonial architecture. It boasts numerous shopping malls and department stores offering highly discounted brand-name clothes, making it a prime shopping destination for tourists. To make the most of your day, take an early morning flight to Colombo. Upon arrival, you can begin your city tour on the way to your hotel.
Colombo Full City Tour: During your city tour, you will visit notable landmarks such as Independence Hall at Independence Square, prominent places of worship (Buddhist, Hindu, Islam, and Christian), the Fort district, the Old Parliament, the National Museum, the Twin World Trade Center Towers, Colombo Lotus Tower, Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque, Viharamahadevi Park, and Galle Face Green. Given Colombo’s reputation for shopping, you should also visit Odel, House of Fashion, Beverly Street, Majestic City, and Noritake. Day 2: Colombo to Kandy

Kandy is Sri Lanka’s second-largest city and the last capital of ancient kings. It is recognized as one of the seven World Heritage Sites in the country by UNESCO. Kandy captivates visitors with its lush prairies, picturesque lake, longest river, and misty mountains. On your way from Colombo to Kandy, you can visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a significant tourist attraction. Caretakers and volunteers look after orphaned, abandoned, and injured elephants here. The highlight is watching the elephants being fed and playing in the Maya Oya River. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3: Kandy

City Tour, Begin your day with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa), a sacred site for Buddhists worldwide. Explore the Gem Museum, showcasing Sri Lanka’s finest gems. Take a leisurely walk around Kandy Lake, an artificial lake built in 1807. During the city tour, you can also visit the peaceful Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue and the Rangala House Art Gallery.

Day 4: Kandy Ella (by Scenic Train)

Ensure you include this train journey in your itinerary and book tickets 2-3 months in advance due to its popularity. The train ride from Kandy to Ella offers one of the most scenic views, including tea plantations, mountains, old bridges, waterfalls, villages, and local children playing along the tracks. Sit on the right side of the train for the best views. Spend the rest of the day at leisure to prepare for your next busy day in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 5: Ella, A Visit to Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya, known as the city of lights, is surrounded by valleys, meadows, mountains, and tea plantations. Its spring-like weather throughout the year adds to its charm, often referred to as “Little England.”
Nuwara Eliya Full City Tour: During the tour, visit a working tea factory to see the lush green tea bushes that produce some of the world’s finest Orange Pekoe tea. Fans of the epic Ramayana should visit Seetha Eliya. Don’t miss the old post office, inaugurated in 1894. Shop for jams, pickles, marmalades, sauces, jellies, and home-brewed wines at the Franciscan Sister’s Jam Room.

Day 6: Ella City Tour

Explore Ella’s attractions, including the Nine Arches Bridge, an excellent example of colonial-era railway construction, Rawana Falls, Little Adam’s Peak for stunning sunrise views, and Ella Spice Garden Cooking Class for a memorable cookery experience with Sri Lanka’s finest spices (pre-booking required). Other places to visit include Ravana’s Cave, Lipton’s Seat, Demodara Railway Loop, Ellatota Ella Waterfall, and Yala National Park.

Day 7: Ella – Galle – Bentota

Start early from Ella to visit Galle. During the city tour, explore the Galle Dutch Fort, Galle Fort Lighthouse, National Maritime Archaeology Museum, Unawatuna Beach, and Jungle Beach. Whale watching cruises are a popular activity. After your journey, rest in a Bentota hotel.

Day 8: Bentota

Bentota is renowned for its golden beaches and water sports. Start your day early to catch the sunrise. Spend the first half enjoying various water sports and the second half sightseeing, including a boat ride on the Madhu River. Visit the turtle hatchery, established by the Wildlife Protection Society in 1981, to see newborn turtles being released into the sea. Return to the hotel and prepare for your departure.

Day 9: Bentota – Colombo – Onward Flight

Take a late evening flight home, allowing you to relax in the morning. After checking out of your Bentota hotel, you can do some last-minute shopping on the way to Colombo. Arrive at the airport three hours before your flight.
